Since the current Rose / Tobias management team took possession of the then 1/5th mile Kutztown (PA) Fairgrounds oval and made it a high-banked 1/4 mile there have been quite a few drivers from varying divisions trying their talents on the red clay speedway. Some drivers were quite successful, while others just could not transfer their talents from their weekly racing to the SpeedSTRs.For many years Billy Pauch,Sr. sat atop the roost but with a new crop of racers and some new driving styles used,Billy has currently dropped to the 3rd overall spot with his 10 main event wins. The current “King” is Billy’s son Billy,Jr. who has amassed 15 victory lane visits to his credit and staying within challenging distance was the 2018 Dick Tobias Classic winner Tim Buckwalter with 13.Many of the winners at Action Track are known in some shape or form by race fans both nationally and internationally.Late model king-pin Rick Eckert has 4 wins to his credit.Modified hotshoe Mike Mahaney equals Eckert win total of 4.Brad Brightbill can hold claim to the Brightbill family throne as Brad notched 3 wins to his father Kenny’s 2.Kenny does have a SpeedSTR championship to his credit.Joining in on the modified driver list whether it be dirt or asphalt are Dale Planck,Jeff Strunk and Earl Paules each with 2 wins.Kevin Graver,Jr. and Frank Cozze have a win to their career totals. The open wheel ranks include Fred Rahmer,Jr.,Steve Drevicki,Steve Buckwalter,Matt Westfall and Jeff Hartman. The multi-versatile Mike Bednar was also a race winner.Adding their names to this impressive list of wheelsmen are Briggs Danner who in the short span of 10 days won 3 SpeedSTR races.Danner also pilots a small block modified at Grandview Speedway on Saturday nights. The list grew on August 1st as one of the popular 270 micro sprint racers Pat ” The Icon” Bealer put the National Fragile X Special # 4 into the winners circle after a 15 lap side by side, wheel to wheel battle with Steve Buckwalter that had the fans giving them a standing ovation when the checker was thrown. The winner’s list could continue to grow as TJ Mayberry,Andy Haus,Tim Iulg and Matt Janisch have recently been combining speed and handling with some upfront finishes.
