Virtually everyone that has raced a Slingshot in 2018 is eligible to take home the World Championship with the track / tour points criteria making them mathematically in the race to be crowned the All Star and Junior Slingshot Champions for the 2018 season.Just by entering a weekly track event or one of the many tour races you earned points in some fashion.Even if you were listed outside the top 30 in the points anywhere you still will be awarded 20 points as a participant.
Currently there are over 150 All Star and 100 Junior drivers that can take home the coveted prize with a good showing at the World Series of Dirt Racing presented at Selinsgrove Speedway and Selinsgrove Raceway Park on Oct. 12th & 13th for the Juniors and a 3 race weekend with the Friday and Saturday mains being held on the Raceway Park oval and the 12 lap Slingshot Derby to be run on the 1/2 mile.
The Elite 11 and Great 8 drivers will be honored at the annual Speedway Entertainment / Action Track USA Banquet with awards and point fund money being handed out for the outstanding accomplishments on the speedway.
There are no double points slated for the WSoDR so all points earned will be added to what your current total will be at race time in October.
Some points races are remaining on the schedule for weekly and tour points and these will have a definite effect on the final standings as many spots are separated by as a little as 2 points.Entries for the WSoDR can be found on the www.worldseriesofdirtracing.com website.Entries will be accepted at the speedway for all the scheduled events on October 12th,13th and 14th.Pre-entering will also help the track announcers give race team info in regards to sponsors and other team news.
Drivers that participated in the Super Nationals have a 1 race advantage on the rest of the teams that did not enter any of these,but these points can be made up with good finishes during the weekend.The Juniors will be running for a maximum of 240 points with the All Stars looking to add the grand total of 360 to their points if they would sweep all 3 races.
Right now drivers leading the All Star class have Brady Boland who runs the speedways in Wisconsin and Minnesota.He is in a virtual tie with Jared Silfee who has piloted the S&S Speedways 55 to a 2018 championship at Action Track USA and also the Speedweeks champion.Another driver making the hauls to Mississippi Thunder and Button Buck is making her mark in the Slingshots as Lilli Reps and Canada star William Racine are only 10 points behind ,with the leaders having 240 points and Reps and Racine holding firm at 230.The 220 point totals have a diverse group with the 1st Super National winner at Southern Raceway, Reese Nowotarski,sharing this spot with southern star Abbey Cauley,who calls the Alabama / Florida circuit her home tracks piloting her yellow # 64. 5 time National Champion Brett Bieber of Oley,PA has been doing some ride sharing the last 2 seasons and the results are paying off as the defending All Star Champion will head to Selinsgrove with both the family owned 32 and the Donny Hockman owned 151 ready for track action.
Both the Juniors and All Star point encompasses all weekly tracks and tours in Canada, the Northeast,North Dakota,the Alabama / Florida speedways and the midwest race stops.
The current Junior standings have Mason Stockhausen and Eliot Gamache atop the leader board right not as Mason took the Super National at Mississippi Thunder and also the point crown at his hometrack.Gamache earned his status by 2 strong runs in the Canada Super National giving him the overall weekend title and the 120 points.His 120 added points are also for being the top runner at his weekly speedway.
10 points behind these 2 strong runners are North Dakota hotshoe Joseph Lewis and Autodrome Chaudiere winner Nicholas Cote.Rounding out the top 5 is Noah Lewis with his strong run at Buffalo River and also taking the track title.
2018 Junior National Champion Shelby McLaughlin is in a challenging spot with 190 points accrued during the 2018 season.There is a definite mix of areas in the top 20 with Action Track USA winner Tanner VanDoren currently residing in 8th.Another of the southern racers in the mix is Dakota Fox who runs at Southern Raceway in Milton,Florida and Canadian Bryan Preville.Making his presence felt currently with 215 points and sharing the spot with VanDoren and Preville is Aidan Donaldson who had some strong runs at Action Track USA and Hamlin Speedway.
