Sammons Motorsports slotted the Slingshots in as part of the December 13th racing action, with the Slingshots racing on dirt inside the Cure Insurance Arena. The indoor dirt oval ,held it’s moisture during the qualifying and 20 lap main event.
Race invitations were sent out to the top 20 in indoor points during the 2018 indoor season at Allentown,Atlantic City and Albany.
If a driver turned down the offer it went to a waiting list to fill the field.
20 cars came to Trenton with 20 all able to take the green flag.
Racing was quite spirited with 2 and 3 wide battles throughout the field.
Jared Silfee,Craig Whitmoyer and Danny Buccafusca were having their own private battle at the front of the field with Brett Bieber and Anthony Raisner picking off cars one by one in their move to the front.Misfortune struck Silfee as he exited the speedway on lap 14 with a left rear flat.Whitmoyer inherited a lead he would not relinquish as Buccafusca used every line on the speedway to gain an advantage but missed out by less than a car length. The last podium spot was raced right under the checker as Raisner executed and no lift and hope for the best as it did just nosing Bieber under the checkered by less than a second.Rounding out the top 5 was Austin Silfee in the X10 ride.
As part of the post race interview Whitmoyer, who has won numerous main events in the sportsman modifieds, let it be known that this was only his 2nd time strapped into a Slingshot and enjoys this class of racing.
Next up for the indoor racers will be a January 5th,2019 stop at the PPL Center in Allentown,PA.
